Frankincense is the resin obtained by splitting trees of the genus Boswellia, found from southern Arabia to Kenya via India. Of all, frankincense, endemic to the Sultanate of Oman, is the most historically famous, as much for its mineral, lemon, and minty aroma as for its therapeutic virtues. This resin is what defined the incense routes.
